He is best known for his paintings on denim. But Rishi Seeruttun is also a fine sculptor. With bronze, he breathes life into characters that always carry a sense of experience.
Rishi has been painting and burning denim for more than 20 years to show his talent.
However, the artist is as comfortable with a brush as with bronze. A blink of the eye takes him back to his early days: “I started sculpting at the same time as painting. I have worked with other materials such as cement and wood. But it was bronze that attracted me the most because of its character, texture and value.
And with bronze, there is also a whole technical aspect to master: “It is a material that is a little difficult to tame. You have to make a mould, then melt the bronze at high temperature and cast it. It’s a technique that I took time and pleasure to master.
Letting his inspiration follow the Ariadne’s thread of religion, the artist creates metal figures: “My figures often have to do with religion. They often carry a philosophical message.
As far as the artist’s current activities are concerned, he will soon be taking part in a group exhibition this year, but he intends to hold a solo exhibition in 2022: “The exhibition will once again be on denim in large formats.”
