A motorcycle couple from Cité La Cure were hit head-on by a 4×4 on Saturday morning, March 9, as they negotiated the Riche-Terre traffic circle on their way to Sainte-Croix. The grey Nissan 4×4, travelling towards Roche-Bois, failed to stop at the Riche-Terre traffic circle to give way to the motorcycle. The couple were taken to the northern hospital for treatment.
It was around 11:30 on Saturday morning, March 9. A 48-year-old security guard was driving his Yamaha motorcycle, with his partner as a passenger. They were coming from Baie du Tombeau. The motorcycle was negotiating a traffic circle on the Riche-Terre freeway, heading for Sainte-Croix.
At the same time, the 4×4 driven by the manager of a Sainte-Croix restaurant coming from the north failed to stop at the traffic circle. As a result, it collided head-on with the motorcycle and its two passengers, who ended up on the asphalt.
The seriously injured woman was taken to the Hôpital du Nord for treatment. She was subsequently admitted to the ward.
The driver of the motorcycle gave a statement to the Terre-Rouge police station on the circumstances of the accident.
When questioned, the 4×4 driver stated that he had not seen the motorcycle arrive. He was given a breathalyzer test, which was negative.
