Following the Islamist killings of two Swedish football fans in Belgium and a teacher in France, French President Emmanuel Macron declared on Tuesday during a visit to Albania that “Islamist terrorism” is on the increase throughout Europe and that all governments are in danger.
Macron made his remarks the day after two Swedes fans were slain in Brussels by a 45-year-old assailant who claimed responsibility in an online video and described himself as an Islamic State member.
In Paris, a prosecutor for anti-terrorism in France stated on Tuesday that in the northern city of Arras on October 13, a 20-year-old man stabbed a schoolteacher to death and injured three others. The assailant had sworn loyalty to the Islamic State.
Following discussions in Tirana with Prime Minister Edi Rama of Albania, Macron stated, “We saw it again yesterday in Brussels. All European states are vulnerable, and there is indeed a resurgence of Islamist terrorism.”
He continued by saying that he would travel to Israel in the upcoming days or weeks. Israel and Hamas are at war after terrorists in Gaza broke through the border barrier and massacred 1,300 people—mostly civilians—during a rampage into Israeli settlements nearby.
“Here, we reiterate our solidarity with our Belgian friends. My desire is to be able to travel there when we can obtain a concrete agreement either on non-escalation or on humanitarian issues and more broadly on everything. “Israel’s security, the fight against all terrorist groups, as well as the peace process and the political solution, are all interconnected. This is the agenda we need to rediscover,” Macron said.
