Anniyan was dubbed in Hindi in 2006 as Aparichit and was a huge hit. For the remake of the film, the makers are roping in Kiara Advani as the female lead opposite Ranveer Singh. Earlier this year Ranveer Singh announced his next big project with South biggie Shankar. The two were going to team up to remake Shankar’s film Anniyan. However soon the producer of the original film, Aascar Ravichandran raised an alarm and claimed that the rights belonged to him and that Shankar and Jayantilal Gada who’s producing the remake cannot make the film without his consent. The producer Ravichandran will now move to High Court to gain legal action against Shankar and Jayantilal Gada. He said, “I am going to court against Shankar and Jayantilal Gada. They cannot make the film without my consent as I own the copyright of the film and no other person has the right over it as I am the author of the movie.”
Ravichandran is mighty upset with the director teaming up with another producer and not seeking the rights from him. Ravichandran got to know about the project when it was announced in the newspapers with Ranveer, Shankar and Jayantilal posing for the photo ops. Ravichandran had filed a complaint with the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) already. Shankar however maintains his stance and says that the script is his and it belongs to him. “He can say and claim anything, but everyone knows that Anniyan is my movie and I hired him to direct the film,” said Ravichandran to E -Times. Now looks like the matter will move to the High Court and legal formalities will be done to solve this issue.
