The leader of the Labour Party held a press conference after the meeting of his Political Bureau this afternoon. He expressed the hope that an arrangement has to be found between his party and the “entente de l’Espoir” in view of the possible municipal elections. He proposed the setting up of a committee that will bring together members of all the parties concerned to clarify certain points. However, Navin Ramgoolam said that if an agreement is reached, it should reflect the balance of power on the ground.

The former Prime Minister held a press conference this Friday, after the meeting of the politburo of the Labour Party. He painted a black picture of the country’s economic situation. If nothing is done, he insisted, Mauritius risks finding itself in the same situation as Sri Lanka. He added that the country is in great danger. According to Dr Ramgoolam, the prices of basic commodities will continue to rise which will make the population suffer even more. He said the government should have stabilised the value of the rupee and helped those in need.
