Rajesh Ramnarain has sought immunity from the Icac in the investigation into allegations of bribery surrounding the granting of a lease for a 250-acre plot of land near Grand-Bassin. It should be noted that his name is involved in the case of allegations of bribery. Rajesh Ramnarain just resigned from the chair of the Sugar Investment Trust. He was summoned to the Independent Commission against Corruption this Monday. He was accompanied by his lawyer, Joy Beeharry. The latter explained that his client was ready to cooperate with the investigators, but that he wanted guarantees under Section 50 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The latter declared to the presse: “My colleague Gavin Glover and I are representing Rajesh Ramnarain. Our client wants to work with Icac to get to the bottom of this case. But this will have legal implications for him. That is why we have requested certain guarantees from ICAC. We are waiting for Icac’s answer. The ball is in the court of the authorities.”
