Rajanah Dhaliah resigned as Parliamentary Private Secretary on Monday. The MSM member for constituency no. 7 (Piton-Rivière-du-Rempart) submitted his letter of resignation to the Acting President of the Republic this morning. However, he will continue to sit as a member of the National Assembly.
On Saturday, the MSM leader took a stand in favor of the anti-corruption commission. At the party’s central committee meeting on Saturday, he made no secret of his frustration at PPS Dhaliah’s refusal to answer the Icac’s summons.
Allegations of corruption concerning the award of a lease to the Eco Deer Park Association for land near Grand-Bassin have put Rajanah Dhaliah in the spotlight. Through his lawyer, Ravi Rutnah, he has expressed his intention to appeal to the Privy Council to avoid being summoned by the Anti-Corruption Commission following the rejection of his application for an injunction by a summary judge.
However, the Prime Minister considers that when summoned by an institution, it is essential to assume one’s responsibilities and answer the call. Pravind Jugnauth also expressed the hope that Rajanah Dhaliah would “step down” from his duties.
