The former PPS has been provisionally charged with influence peddling under Section 10 of the Prevention of Corruption Act in the Port Louis Magistrates’ Court. His bail was set at 100,000 rupees. He will also have to provide an IOU for one million rupees.
Among the conditions imposed by Magistrate Shavina Jugnauth, he must not contact any witnesses involved in the investigation. Nor is he allowed to leave the country. Rajanah Dhaliah was arrested a few hours ago by the ICAC, at the end of his second day of interrogation.
Rajanah Dhaliah is accused of influence peddling and soliciting a bribe of 4 million rupees from Ajay Kumar Jeetoo to facilitate the granting of the lease for the 250-hectare concession at Dayot, near Grand Bassin, to the Eco Deer Park company.
