Mauritian Jérôme Caprice broke his own national record in the 35 km race walk on October 3 in Tilburg, Netherlands. With a time of 03:00:18, he shaved more than fourteen minutes off his previous mark of 03:15:08 set on May 1, 2009.
In Tilburg Jérôme Caprice finished on the third step of the podium. The race was won by Dominic King in 02:50:06 and second place went to Daniel King in 03:00:00.
“I am very happy to have broken my record. I was confident that I could beat it since in a training test I already went under the three-hour mark,” he said.
The Mauritian is now focusing on his preparation for several major competitions to be held in 2021. “The high level competitions, such as the World Championships, the African Championships and the Commonwealth Games will follow one another in 2021. So I am focusing on my preparation for these competitions. I am not far from a podium in 20 km for the African championships to be held in Mauritius next June, so we must work hard, “said Jerome Caprice.
