Public Service Excellence Award : Three Departments Under Health Ministry Honoured

A ceremony was organised, today, by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, at its headquarters in Port Louis, to honour three of its departments for their achievements at the Public Service Excellence Award 2021. The Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, was present at the event.

It is recalled that at the Public Service Excellence Award 2021 ceremony, held on 27 May 2022, the Non-Communicable Disease, Health Promotion and Research Unit bagged the Gold Award; the Spine Unit of Victoria Hospital won the Silver Award while the Human Resource Section of the Dr Abdool Gaffoor Jeetoo Hospital obtained the Special Award.

Congratulating the awardees, Dr Jagutpal underlined that these recognitions demonstrated the determination, contribution and efforts of the staff of the Ministry in working as a team for the nation.

The Minister of Health and Wellness commended the Non-Communicable Disease, Health Promotion and Research Unit, which was tasked with the COVID-19 vaccination of the population. He pointed out that the Unit had carried out this complex task at a challenging time, successfully mobilising people and managing all conditions attached to the exercise such as the cold chain logistics.

Regarding the Spine Unit, Dr Jaguptal paid tribute to the accomplishment of building up an efficient team at Victoria Hospital to undertake spine surgery locally. He added that this had benefitted patients and had cut costs as previously these surgical interventions were affected abroad. The Minister also saluted the Human Resource Section of the Dr Abdool Gaffoor Jeetoo Hospital in using technology for a more effective service.

Public Service Excellence Award 2021

The Public Service Excellence Award is an annual initiative of the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms which aims at recognising the efforts of Ministries/Departments or Units/Divisions in continuously improving their quality of services through innovative approaches. The overall objective is to promote a performance-oriented, responsive, customer-friendly and accountable public service.
