After four Bangladeshi employees, vaccinated against COVID-19 and working for Princes Tuna, tested positive for the virus last week, on Wednesday June 9, The Minister of Health, Dr Kailesh Jagutpal announced that 19 factory employees have, at this stage, tested positive for Covid-19, including 16 in two dormitories of foreign workers. These dormitories have been declared a “Red Zone” since Tuesday, June 8.
The management of the Princes Tuna Mauritius factory, in a press release, states that the factory, located at Marine Road at Quay D, has been out of business since 4 a.m. this Thursday morning, June 10, 2021.
A decision that was taken at the end of the “night shift” which took place with the agreement and under the supervision of the health authorities who carried out a massive screening exercise among all employees in post.
It is also specified that at Princes Tuna Mauritius well-being and health security remain a priority. The factory says it strictly follows the health guidelines of local authorities. The plant also states that more than 97% of its employees including foreign workers have already been vaccinated as well as 43% of Mauritian staff.
