The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, received, yesterday afternoon, the visit of Mr Sanjeev Sanyal, an Indian Economist and Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Mr Narendra Modi, at the New Treasury Building in Port-Louis.
In a statement after the meeting, Mr Sanjeev Sanyal underlined that it was a privilege to meet Prime Minister Jugnauth, recalling that India shared close relations with Mauritius.
The Indian Economist emphasised that India was using many lenses as it engaged with the world on a different level, following its emergence as an important global economic power. “These,” he said “include the Global South, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, and the Indian Diaspora.”
“Mauritius,” he stressed, “is very unique in this sense, as it falls in all these frameworks.”
Furthermore, Mr Sanjeev Sanyal affirmed that India had an engagement with Africa as well, reminding that India worked hard to ensure that the African Union became part of G20. He also mentioned the importance of Mauritius as a gateway to Africa.
