The Federation of Civil Service and Other Unions (FCSOU) is calling on Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth to appoint the Chairman of the Redundancy Board (RB), Rashid Hossen, as Commissioner to correct the anomalies in the latest PRB report.
In a letter to the head of government, FCSOU President Narendranath Gopee points out that the latter, in his capacity as former chairman of the Employment Relations Tribunal (ERT), has had the opportunity in the past to deal with many cases relating to the PRB. That is why he believes that the PRB is “the right person in the right place for the right job”. The unionist believes that the PRB would not be able to correct its own mistakes because after six years of work, a controversial report was produced. “It should be a common admission that Government has invested huge sums of monies in terms of salaries and various pecuniary benefits for the PRB’s officers. Is it therefore justified that after almost six years, the PRB comes up with a report full of controversies, inconsistencies and oversights, especially when the public service is in the process of undergoing major transformation, which demands motivated officers?” wrote Narendranath Gopee in his letter to the head of government, which was sent on Monday.
In the letter, he mentions the wave of frustration among civil servants that was raised by the latest PRB report. As you are aware, the PRB Report released in last October has left in its wake a wave of frustration and resentment among all public officers, particularly among officers at the lowest ring of the ladder.
