On mission in Europe since November 10, Cardinal Maurice E. Piat returned home last Sunday. In France, he visited the eleven Mauritian seminarians studying in Nantes and Orleans. While in France, Cardinal Piat was asked by the French Catholic television station, KTO, to record a program entitled “Églises du Monde Ile Maurice” which was broadcast on Thursday, December 9 at 00:40 (Mauritian time) on KTO. This program will then be rebroadcast over several days.
In this program, the bishop shares the ordeal of the Mauritians in the face of the pandemic. Cardinal Piat also talks about the sinking of the Wakashio, which had dramatic consequences for the fishermen of the Southeast. Cardinal Piat also spoke of hope for the youth and the beautiful solidarity of the Mauritians in the face of the oil spill. He also returns with emotion to the visit of Pope Francis to Mauritius on September 9, 2019.
The last part of his stay was devoted to making contact, in Rome and in other cities of Italy, with different international Catholic agencies that could support the development of the Saint-Gabriel Technical College into a vocational technical school. On this occasion, Cardinal Piat was accompanied by Father Maurizio, Mr. Bêche and Mr. Mohun, from the Saint-Gabriel Technical College.
He also had the opportunity to discuss this project with Pope Francis during a meeting at the Vatican on December 1st. The Pope showed great interest in the project and encouraged the project team to promote quality technical training for young Mauritians.
