Phase 2B of the Metro Express, from Quatre Bornes to Phoenix, was launched, today, by the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the Phoenix Metro Station. The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo; the Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Mr Kavydass Ramano; the Chief Executive Officer of Metro Express Ltd, Mr Das Mootanah, as well as other eminent personalities were present.
The Prime Minister stated that since the Metro Express started serving on the line Port-Louis to Rose Hill; Rose-Hill to Quatre-Bornes and now from Quatre-Bornes to Phoenix, the quality of life of the passengers of the Metro Express has ameliorated and the image of the places the Metro goes through has changed in a better way.
He also came over the fact that despite the difficulties they had to face, specially due to the Covid-19 situation, the infrastructural works of the Metro were delayed but managed to finish in the estimated time and inauguration is being done on time.
The Prime Minister seized the occasion to salute the amazing job done by the contractor and all the companies who have worked in collaboration with the contractor to make this project a success. Pravind Jugnauth also thanked all the Ministries and institutions, who worked in collaboration as a team to make this project a reality till Phoenix.
He also said a big thank you to the Public sector, who showed a lot of interest in the project and worked in collaboration to bring even more development along the path of the Metro. For example, Ascencia group made a 100% investment in a Metro Station in Phoenix and one should not forget the construction of the Victoria Urban terminal and the project for an Urban Terminal in Vacoas, Rose-Hill, Quatre-Bornes and Curepipe.
Considering the speculations concerning the development of the country and the difficulties the country is into due to Covid and the Ukraine War; the Prime Minister stated that it is obvious that the government is reviewing its projects in terms of development but there are projects that cannot be reviewed because contracts have already be allocated and that despite all, we need to go forward and develop the country. He also congratulated Alan Ganoo for the traffic master plan put forward where the infrastructure and directions on roads have been reviewed in relation to the Metro Pathway.
The Prime Minister appealed to the population to learn about the changes made so as not to get confused.
