The introduction of Mauritian Kreol in Parliament has been one of the subjects evoked during the Prime Minister’s Question Time on Tuesday. Pravind Jugnauth was questioned by MMM MP Arianne Navarre Marie. The Head of Government cited a number of examples to support his view that MPs and ministers are not ready for that introduction. He also referred to the various initiatives that have been put in place to allow Mauritian Kreol to make its way to Parliament. For Pravind Jugnauth, this cannot be done overnight.
When Arianne Navarre Marie asked the Prime Minister if this project will be completed before the end of his mandate, there was uproar in the Chamber. Pravind Jugnauth pointed out that Eric Guimbeau questioned Navin Ramgoolam, then Prime Minister, on this subject in the past. Ramgoolam said that he does not intend to amend the Constitution to allow Kreol as another language that could be used in Parliament.
