The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, participated in a high-level political forum on sustainable development, on Tuesday, at the UN Headquarters in New York. Several Heads of State and Government participated in this dialogue convened under auspices of the United Nations General Assembly.
In his address on the theme of financing and investments aiming to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the Prime Minister stressed on the need for a global collective effort to aid developing countries to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, conflicts around the world and the effects of climate change.
Mr Jugnauth underlined that Mauritius chose not to leave anyone behind during the pandemic and took unprecedented measures to save lives, ensure food security and boost economic resilience. The Prime Minister, moreover, appealed for more funding to be granted to low-and middle-income countries and proposed that the eligibility criteria for access to concessional financing be reviewed.
The Prime Minister also proposed that international collaboration be strengthened so as to enhance resilience through an effective transfer of good practices and technologies.
