PM Assesses Preparations Ahead Of Thaipoosam Cavadee Celebrations

The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, effected a site visit, on Friday evening, at the Arul Migou Sockalingum Meenatchee Ammen Tirukkovil, commonly known as Kaylassum, in Port Louis, in the context of the upcoming celebration of Thaipoosam Cavadee.

In a statement, the Prime Minister explained that the site visit followed the meeting of the Task Force regarding the organisation of the religious festival, Thaipoosam Cavadee, to be celebrated on 25 January 2024. The main issues discussed during the meeting concerned the allocation of responsibilities and the required works to be undertaken to ensure that the religious festival is held in the best possible conditions at national level.

According to Mr Jugnauth, the preparatory meetings of the Task Force prior to the celebration of any religious festival at national level provide an opportunity to bring continuous improvements. He stated that the objective of the site visit at the Arul Migou Sockalingum Meenatchee Ammen Tirukkovil was to observe firsthand the infrastructure works in progress. He informed that while some of the enhancement works will be completed before the festival, other infrastructural development will be carried out over a longer term.

The Prime Minister also expressed his satisfaction over the works undertaken and the close collaboration with the various stakeholders for the smooth running of the forthcoming festival. He, moreover, spoke of his expectations that Thaipoosam Cavadee takes place in the most favourable circumstances, and thanked all stakeholders for their efforts and hard work.

Several Members of Cabinet accompanied the Prime Minister during the site visit, namely the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management, Dr Mohammad Anwar Husnoo; the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy; the Minister of Energy and Public Utilities, Mr Georges Pierre Lesjongard; the Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Mr Kavydass Ramano; the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram; and the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck.

Members of Parliament; other dignitaries; representatives of key organisations such as the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Services and the Mauritius Police Force, and various stakeholders were present for the site visit.
