The Mauritian authorities have set up a repatriation system for Rodriguans which is working well. Now, 718 Rodriguans are still stranded in Mauritius and awaiting repatriation. This is what Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth made clear in response to the PNQ from the leader of the opposition today in parliament. Xavier-Luc Duval wanted to know the number of Rodriguans who have been awaiting repatriation since March 7.
In his response, the head of government went into detail on the various means that the authorities have put in place to facilitate the repatriation of Rodriguans in the context of the pandemic and the reduction in Air Mauritius flights to Rodrigues.
The opposition leader also proposed that a ‘Help Desk’ be set up because he believes the repatriation of Rodriguans is poorly organized. To which, the Prime Minister replied that the system put in place is well oiled with a “hotline” and that every day the authorities receive many requests.
Pravind Jugnauth who also points out that with the mandatory quarantine, there will not be enough room to suddenly repatriate all those who want to return to Rodrigues. Hence a priority list for the Rodrigues Regional Assembly. The criteria are defined by the Rodrigues Regional Assembly, in a spirit of autonomy, he assures.
