The Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India has completed 66 years of its service in Mauritius. LIC is celebrating Insurance week from 01 September to 07 September 2022. On Tuesday 06 September 2022, a plantation ceremony of the ASHOKA TREE has taken place at the LIC centre, ground floor-garden area. Among the guests present are Honorable Mr. Sudheer Maudhoo, Minister of Blue Economy Marine Resources Fisheries and Shipping, Mr Kishore Bunjun, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Industrial Development, SMEs Cooperatives and Mr Maubarakahmad Boodhun, Sr Chief Executive of Ministry of Fisheries, and Mr Mukesh Dawoonauth, Acting Director of Statistics.

The General Manager of LIC, Mr. Anil Kumar spoke of the achievement of the company, which strives to give a better service to the people of Mauritius. He added that LIC has a big growth of around 165 000 new policies a year. For him, the plantation of some 100 Ashoka trees is part of its green initiative policy. Guests and staffs have participated in this plantation ceremony.

Minister Maudhoo, who was present, congratulated LIC for being present in Mauritius since 1956, which has been a long journey. He also added that LIC Mauritius has settled claims amounting to MUR 447.59 million during 2021-22, which translates to a claim settlement of around MUR 1.8 million every working day. He also congratulated the dedicated staff of the company.

It is to be recalled that Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is a global Life Insurance company with headquarters in Mumbai, India. Its operations cover over 14 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and Oceania (Pacific). LIC of India is India’s leading life insurance provider. The Government of India is a majority shareholder of LIC of India, which has been set up in 1956 by an Act of the Indian Parliament. LIC of India is also the largest life insurer in the world in terms of the number of customers, which is more than 286 million. LIC’s global assets are well beyond US$ 447 billion. LIC of India renders its services to the customers through a family of over 1,14,498 employees and more than 1.21 million agents.

LIC Mauritius is also generating employment for the local population. At present, there are 14 local employees along with 72 salespersons & 2 agents, who are the bread winners of their families. LIC Mauritius puts lot of emphasis on its social responsibilities and contributes to the Mauritian society through CSR activities, MUR 3.88 million in 2021-22, and about Rs 23 million in last five years.
