The victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to the Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle. In the wake of the attack, five suspects were arrested. They are Vratesh Beelaur, a 25-year-old bricklayer who was subsequently admitted to Rose Belle hospital, Sooriadeo Dookhun, a 42-year-old welder, Daramduth Dookhun, Manoj Bhujun and Luvlesh Sharma Andrew Dodin. They both live in the Trois Boutiques housing estate, Plaine Magnien.

It was during an argument that Tooland Ujoodha was attacked outside his home in the Trois Boutiques housing estate, Plaine Magnien, shortly after 9pm on the evening of Thursday March 14th. Severely injured and bleeding profusely from his left abdomen and flank, Tooland Ujoodha was rushed to Rose Belle hospital for treatment. The emergency doctor pronounced him dead at around 10.25 pm.

The Plaine Magnien police station was alerted to the death of this village resident following an assault, and dispatched a team of police officers, led by Sergeant Chellamootoo, to the scene. Tooland Ujoodha’s body was taken to the morgue and placed under police surveillance. On Friday morning, March 15, it was transferred to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy, carried out by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the police forensic department, attributed the death to shock following a blow to the abdomen.

The victim and the five suspects were related. They were not on good terms with the victim. On the evening of Thursday March 14, an argument between them escalated into a bloody brawl.

The police investigation led to five arrests in the early hours of Friday and throughout the day of Friday March 15.  Sooriadeo Dookhun, Daramduth Dookhun and Manoj Bhujun have already been brought before the Mahebourg court on Friday March 15 on a provisional charge of murder.
