Pedestrian Dies In Hit-And-Run Accident

The perpetrator of a hit-and-run accident that struck a pedestrian, Taslim Jahalal, 46, who was standing on the edge of the Route Royale in Trou aux Biches on June 1, is still being sought by the police. Meanwhile, the victim, who lived in the same coastal village, succumbed to his injuries on the evening of Friday June 23 at the Hôpital du Nord, twenty-two days after his accident.

Taslim Jahalal breathed his last in the intensive care unit of the Hôpital du Nord at around 7.30 p.m. on the evening of Friday June 23rd. He had been admitted after being hit by a car which had failed to stop at around 6.50 p.m. on June 1. The victim was standing on the edge of the Route Royale in Trou aux Biches at the time of the accident.

The accident occurred near the Mexico snack bar. Police officers from the Trou aux Biches police station were immediately alerted and rushed to the scene. Taslim Jahalal lay on the road. He was unconscious and bleeding profusely. An ambulance from the Service d’Aide Médicale d’Urgence was dispatched to take him to hospital. After treatment, he was placed in an intensive care unit.

An investigation is still underway at the Trou aux Biches police station to find the perpetrator of this hit-and-run accident. The scene of the accident is not covered by surveillance cameras. Taslim Jahalal’s body was autopsied at the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis on Saturday morning, June 24. The autopsy, carried out by Dr Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed the death to craniocerebral lesions.
