Citizens, activists and politicians were present yesterday for the peaceful march, organized by the Collectif ‘Pa Tous Nu SIM Carte’ . The aim of this peaceful demonstration was to contest the government’s decision concerning the SIM card re-registration exercise.
Equipped with their placards and quadricolors, participants chanted: “Pa tous nou sim kart.” Percy Yip Tong, one of the march’s organizers, said that the judiciary must now be trusted. “There are still six weeks to go. This demonstration marks the start. We are satisfied, because we have seen the presence of citizens. We now need to have confidence in the justice system,” he declared.
The activist appeals to the government: “Nou pe demann gouvernman montre li rezonab. Nou pa pe fronte. Me nou pe demann zot reflesi ek donn nou enn rezon ki valab.” He asks the government to reconsider its decision, as the arguments put forward by the authorities to justify the re-registration of SIM cards are not convincing. Percy Yip Tong believes that the adoption of this measure is not an effective strategy in the fight against drugs.
The peaceful ‘Pa Tous Nu SIM Carte’ march through the streets of Port-Louis was a resounding success, according to the organizers.
