The newly appointed High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr Muhammad Arshad Jan Pathan, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, yesterday afternoon, at the State House, in Réduit.
In a statement following the meeting, the High Commissioner thanked President Roopun and the Government of Mauritius for having accepted his credentials and conveyed the good wishes of both the President and the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Mauritian authorities.
He observed that Mauritius and Pakistan have longstanding historical relations while sharing almost the same culture and roots. He expressed hope that, during his tenure, bilateral relations between the two countries will be further strengthened.
Furthermore, he underscored that the Pakistani Government has recently developed an Engage Africa Policy, according to which Pakistan intends to have a more engaging and active relationship with all African countries.
The Pakistani High Commissioner also informed that Mauritius is his first ambassadorial station and reassured that he intends to engage more with the Mauritian Government as well as with society in general.
Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh pays courtesy call on Minister Ganoo
The Foreign Secretary of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ambassador Masud Bin Momen, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, today, in Port-Louis.
The High Commissioner for the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Mauritius, Ms Rezina Ahmed, was also present.
In a statement, Ambassador Masud Bin Momen underlined that he had a fruitful meeting with Minister Ganoo, adding that discussions focused on the excellent bilateral relations between Mauritius and Bangladesh.
He indicated that they also talked about the directives to take forward the initiatives that Bangladesh had taken after assuming the chairmanship of the Indian Ocean Rim Association.
Other topics namely tourism, fishing and aquaculture were also at the fore of discussions in a bid to promote cooperation between the two countries.
