Navin Ramgoolam held a press conference after his meeting with Paul Bérenger and Xavier-Luc Duval this morning. He announced that discussions have progressed on a possible alliance. Obstacles have been cleared, he added. The next meeting is scheduled for next Thursday at 2:30 pm.
The Labour Party leader also said that the three parties could have gone to the next elections separately, but they are aware of the importance of an alliance to save the country.
Referring to the arrest of former journalist Harish Chundunsing, Dr Ramgoolam pledged that if he returns to power, he will abolish all repressive laws related publications on social networks. This will be one of his priorities.
The appointment of the Audit Director was also commented on. Navin Ramgoolam stated that “Xavier Duval gave us a briefing on the subject. It is totally aberrant what is happening. How can Mauritians tolerate this? How is this person going to investigate himself? There is an extraordinary conflict of interest,” he said.
