Bishop Durhône of Port-Louis and Cardinal Maurice E. Piat were informed on Tuesday afternoon that a member of the Mauritian delegation to the World Youth Day was involved in a road accident yesterday in Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
The injured man, in his thirties, was hospitalised. The causes of the accident are still unknown.
The Spanish authorities are in contact with the Mauritian embassy for follow-up.
The diocese of Port-Louis, through its bishop, Mgr Durhône, and Cardinal Piat, would like to express its sympathy and invite all Mauritians to pray for the family of the young man.
As a reminder, the diocesan delegation, which includes 120 young people from Mauritius and Rodrigues, has left Spain for Portugal, where the International WYD in Lisbon will take place.
