Sir Kailash Ramdanee, father of Kobita Jugnauth, wife of the Prime Minister, died after a long illness on Monday night, August 21. He was 96 years old.
Admitted since last Friday to the intensive care unit of a Curepipian clinic, Sir Kailash Ramdanee (SKR) had been suffering from a lung infection.
In a message written on his Facebook page, Pravind Jugnauth – the son-in-law of the deceased, describes SKR as a person who sacrificed much for his family: “C’est ene grand homme ki fine aller. My wife and I and my fellow zenfans are deeply saddened by Sir Kailash’s passing. Li made a great contribution to the country, but above all he was an exemplary and loving father who made great sacrifices for his family and was a great gentleman in every way. Nou prier pou ki li repose en paix. Om Shanti”
A native of Brisée-Verdière, SKR was born in 1927. He went into business in the 1960s. He founded Mauritius Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Co. Ltd, a company specializing in the manufacture of medicines in Mauritius. He also launched the Mauritius Diabetese Association in 1981. SKR was also instrumental in the creation of Mauritius Telecom in 1992.
Sir Kailash Ramdanee was also deeply involved in the Rotary Club and even served as District Governor. He was knighted in 1990.
