A delegation of the National Productivity and Competitiveness Council (NPCC), in Rodrigues since 06 March 2023, kick-started a series of consultations to compile the necessary data for the elaboration of a new strategic plan aiming to increase productivity and competitiveness on the island.
Moreover, meetings have also been scheduled between the NPCC delegation and the administrative leaders of Rodrigues to understand the issues related to productivity and to discuss avenues of collaboration in the field of training and staff development. As such, on 06 March 2023, the delegation met with the Chief Commissioner of Rodrigues, Mr Johnson Roussety, who reiterated his commitment and support in the process of improving productivity in Rodrigues.
According to the NPCC Executive Director, there is a need for a strategic plan specific to Rodrigues as the island is an integral part of the Republic of Mauritius, despite being managed independently. He highlighted that it was high time to review the strategy for Rodrigues, whose economy is based on pillars such as agriculture and entrepreneurship. Through this new strategic plan, he underscored, the NPCC calls for an improvement in productivity among the economic operators of Rodrigues so that they can increase their performance and growth.
Mr Gungah also pointed out that this new strategic plan will lay greater emphasis on the notion of excellence and that Rodriguan stakeholders will be called upon to adopt modern practices allowing better management of resources as well as clean and healthy production.
It is recalled that the latest strategic plan on productivity for Rodrigues, entitled ‘Strategic Plan to Enhance Productivity and Competitiveness in the Island of Rodrigues 2016-2020’ was developed and launched by the NPCC in 2017.
“Rodrigues is an integral part of the Republic of Mauritius, but is managed in full autonomy, hence the need for a strategic plan specific to the island. It was high time to review our strategy for Rodrigues, whose economy is based on growth pillars such as agriculture and entrepreneurship. Through this new strategic plan, NPCC is advocating for improved productivity among Rodrigues’ economic operators so that they can increase their performance and growth,” said NPCC’s Executive Director.
NPCC has been collaborating with the Rodrigues Regional Assembly (RRA) since the year 2000 in the implementation of various programs including productivity and quality improvement. In addition, several training programs have been organized in the past for entrepreneurs, students, and youth. These include ‘InnovEd’, ‘Plug Your Brain’, ‘Train the Trainer’, Total Quality Management’, Gemba Kaizen and Today’s Teens Tomorrow’s Leaders.
