Non-Resident Israeli Ambassador To Mauritius Meets Minister Ganoo

The Ambassador of the State of Israel to Mauritius with residence in Pretoria, Mr Eliav Belotsercovsky, paid a courtesy call, this afternoon, on the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, in his Office at Newton Tower, on Tuesday in Port-Louis.

Earlier, the Ambassador of the State of Israel, Mr Eliav Belotsercovsky, presented his credentials, to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, at the State House in Réduit. In a statement, the Ambassador pointed out that he had an interesting meeting with President Roopun and that discussions centered on further strengthening the bilateral relations between Mauritius and Israel.

After his meeting with the Alan Ganoo, the Ambassador indicated that Israel, like Mauritius, is a small country with a vibrant democracy. Both countries share a lot in common and struggle with the same challenges, he highlighted. He likewise expressed the will to work in collaboration with the Mauritian authorities to overcome the common challenges facing the two countries.

Moreover, Mr Belotsercovsky emphasised the need to explore avenues of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, alternative energy and water management. Tourism is also another sector which can be tapped into as there are many Israelis who would like to come to Mauritius, he added.

Ambassador Belotsercovsky, born on 13 December 1963, holds a B.A. degree in International Relations and Far Eastern Affairs from Hebrew University, Jerusalem (1987-1990), and an M.Sc. in International Management from Boston University programme in Israel (1990-1992).

Since February 2019, he is the Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Armenia (non-resident).

The Israeli Ambassador has held various positions in his career notably as: Deputy Director of Euroasian Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jerusalem (October 2003-August 2007); Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Israel, India (August 2007-August 2011); Director Economic Relations with India and China in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jerusalem (September 2011-August 2014); Minister Counsellor (non-resident) for Economic Relations with the Hellenic Republic (February 2013-August 2014); and Ambassador of the State of Israel to Ukraine (August 2014-August 2018).
