Mario Nobin, former Commissioner of Police, no longer faces a provisional charge of “public official using his office for gratification”. This morning, in the district court of Port-Louis, Principal State Counsel Nataraj Muneesamy said there was insufficient evidence to maintain a provisional charge against the former CP.
As a reminder, according to the indictment, Mario Nobin, who was then Commissioner of Police, may have exerted his influence between September 5 and September 8, 2016 on the Divisional Commander of the Northern Division and Passport and Immigration Office officer Boodhram, giving them instructions to facilitate the emergency granting of a passport to alleged drug trafficker Mike Brasse in 2016. Brasse was subsequently arrested on the sister island after seizing 42kg of heroin.
