”There is no cholera or other health problem on board of the liner Norwegian Dawn which is confined in the harbour,” says Dr Bhushan Ori. The Director of Health Services spoke at a press conference this afternoon to provide an update on the situation of the Norwegian Dawn. The liner was quarantined in the Port-Louis harbour after around twenty passengers fell ill.
Dr Bhushan Ori explained that tests had been carried out and the results confirmed that there was no cholera and that the water was safe to drink. According to him, all the patients have recovered.
Dr Bhushan Ori says that the Mauritius Ministry of Health was in contact with the World Health Organisation, which shares their view that there is no problem of cholera or any other epidemic on board the Norwegian Dawn.
“The Norwegian Dawn has been able to dock in the next few hours.
Mr Labonne, from the Ministry of Tourism, said that since 4 a.m. on Saturday, an assessment of the situation had been carried out with Health. He spoke of a close collaboration between the Ministries of Health and Tourism and the Mauritius Port Authority (MPA).
The latter explained that 2,200 passengers and staff waiting to board were welcomed at the port on Sunday. With the lifting of the docking ban, passengers placed in isolation on the ship will also have to be accommodated.
