Must Read

The case concerning the challenge to the Financial Crimes Commission Act by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Rashid Ahmine, was called before the Chief Justice, Rehana Mungly-Gulbul, in the Supreme Court this morning. The DPP is asking the court to rule that the Financial Crimes Commission Act is in breach of Sections 1 and 72 of the Constitution. The challenge to the Financial Crimes Commission Act by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Me Rashid Ahmine, has been postponed until Monday May 20.

Relying on Article 83 of the Constitution, the DPP is asking the country’s highest court to rule that the Financial Crimes Commission Act constitutes a threat to Articles 1 and 72 of the Constitution. Rashid Ahmine argues, among other things, that the commission’s power to prosecute is likely to be influenced by political interests.
