A new legislation on Cybersecurity and Cybercrime, positioning the country as a safer place for cyber-business, will be proposed in the National Assembly, as Government reiterates its commitment to consolidate appropriate safeguards in view of mitigating cyberthreats and attacks.
The statement was made by the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin, at the virtual launch of the Digital Loyalty Programme Shell Club application by Vivo Energy Mauritius, on Wednesday evening at Le Hotel Suffren & Marina, in Port Louis.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mr Jaganathan Rangan, and the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Mauritius, Mr Matthias de Larminat, as well as other personalities were also present at the launching ceremony of the Digital Loyalty Programme Shell Club application which is designed to offer a seamless digital and contactless experience to its customers.
In his address, Mr Balgobin lauded the initiative of Vivo Energy for embarking on this new initiative to develop an application which will be used as a digital loyalty card and at the same time facilitate business in this COVID-19 pandemic era.
He underscored that his Ministry is working at all levels for practical solutions and to make the digital transformation of the economy possible. This initiative on behalf of Vivo Energy is a symbol of such transformation, Mr Balgobin pointed out.
Furthermore, he stated that this project is in line with the vision of the Government to build an innovative Republic of Mauritius. The economic and social development in Mauritius, as well as worldwide, is increasingly influenced by digital change, digitalisation and innovation, he added.
Minister Balgobin further indicated that his Ministry is leading many projects focused on the digital transformation of Government services, notably: the digitalisation of vaccination cards; the upcoming launch of a cloud – the MoKloud – which will allow each individual to access their official documents in digital format; online reservations through the MoRendezVous platform, which allows online reservations of public services; the upcoming Certification Authority, which will offer citizens and companies the opportunity to obtain a digital signature locally and by a Government authority and; the launch of MIR-SAT1, the first Mauritian nano-satellite last June.
Moreover, Mr Balgobin highlighted that connectivity, online collaborations, digital services and emerging technologies have become the lifeblood of today’s business world due to COVID-19 pandemic. Solutions such as Work-From-Home, Online Learning, Virtual Meetings, Online Trading, Cash-less Transactions have become the “new normal”, he pointed out.
For his part, the Managing Director of Vivo Energy underlined that the company not only focuses on economic aspects of business but also on social and environmental responsibility as well. Vivo Energy Mauritius has continuously strived to meet its customers’ demand and support the country’s economic growth and development through its fierce determination to offer the best to its customers, thus contributing significantly in helping the local community, he stated.
