A flag raising ceremony was held, yesterday at noon, at the State House at Le Réduit, to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Independence of Mauritius and the 31st anniversary of the country’s accession to the status of Republic.
The President of the Republic, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, several Ministers and members of the diplomatic corps were also present to mark the event.
The theme retained for this year’s National Day Celebrations is “55 an Larmoni Dan Nu Repiblik”.
During the ceremony, the National Anthem was played by the Police Band. The flag of the Republic of Mauritius was hoisted to top mast followed by a 21 Gun Salute.
The ceremony was also marked with a parade by various units of the Mauritius Police Force.
