Mrs Yvette Monneron, born on 23 January 1924, celebrated her 100th birthday, on Saturday 27 January 2024, at Domaine des Aubineaux, in Forest Side, in the presence of the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint; Member of Parliament, Mr Rameswar Doolub; her family, and friends.
An official ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity to honour the new Centenarian. Mrs Monneron received, from the authorities, a cheque of Rs 26,203; a centenarian medal; a bouquet; a microwave; a gift from the Senior Citizens Council; and a cheque to the tune of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund.
Mrs Monneron, born Nadal, originated from Pointe D’Esny in Mahebourg. Her father, Mr Fernand Nadal, was a fisherman, and her mother, Mrs Sophie Eva, worked as housemaid. She was the only child of the family. Her father passed away at the age of 101 years.
The Centenarian studied up to standard V and married at the age of 18 years old. She has four children. Mrs Monneron attributes her longevity to hard work and her faith in God.
