Mrs Remowtee Shewtohul Celebrates Her 100th Birthday

Mrs Remowtee Shewtohul, also known as ‘Dadi’, celebrated her 100th birthday, on Saturday 19 November 2022, in Curepipe, with family and friends. The Deputy Chief Government Whip, Mr Soobeersingh Dhunoo, and other personalities were present at the event.

During the celebrations, Mrs Remowtee Shewtohul was offered a cheque of Rs 26,203; an electronic appliance; a bouquet of flower; the centenarian medal; and a certificate for her service by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity. She also received a cheque of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund of the Ministry while the Senior Citizen Council presented her with gifts.

Mrs Shewtohul was born on 16 November 1922 in Souillac. Her father was a labourer and her mother was a seamstress. She attributes her longevity to healthy foods, good family care and the grace of God.

Mrs Remowtee Shewtohul had eight children, five sons and three daughters, of whom, five are alive. She has 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
