The road has claimed another victim in the space of 24 hours. Raj Kumar Jeetun, 39, also known as Ti Major, lost his life on the evening of Thursday March 14, when the New Way moped he was driving skidded off the Route Royale de Laventure before colliding head-on with an electricity pylon. A doctor from the Emergency Medical Service (Samu) who had arrived on the scene with his staff could only note the death of this village resident. Raj Kumar Jeetun is the twenty-seventh victim of road accidents since the beginning of this year.
Following a request, police officers from the Brisée-Verdière police station, led by Sergeant Tengry, went to the Royale de Laventure road near the Maharaja Palace party hall. The victim was lying motionless on the road, his face flat on the ground. A little further on, the moped lay unattended on the cement floor in front of this wedding hall. The victim’s 56-year-old mother was questioned by investigators. He stated that his son had gone out at around 7 p.m. to buy some cigarettes. It was on the way home that the accident occurred.
A Samu ambulance was called to the scene of the accident, and the doctor on board could only certify that Raj Kumar Jeetun was dead. His body was taken to the morgue of the Dr Bruno Cheong hospital in Flacq before being transported to the Dr A.G. Jeetoo hospital in Port-Louis on Friday morning, March 15, for an autopsy.
The autopsy, carried out by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to multiple injuries.
Raj Kumar Jeetun’s funeral took place on Friday March 15 at 2.30 pm. He was cremated at the Laventure crematorium.
