The Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mrs Marie Christiane Dorine Chukowry, accompanied by officers of the Consumer Affairs Unit, conducted surprise checks, today, in two supermarkets and a restaurant in the vicinity of Goodlands.
In a statement, Minister Chukowry underscored the necessity of inspecting trade premises for consumer protection, affirming that this is an ongoing commitment. She, thus, noted that inspections conducted today resulted in approximately 40 fines for failure to display prices and six fines for discrepancies where prices were found to be higher at checkout.
Moreover, the Minister said that damaged vegetables were found and urged their prompt removal from the section. This, she indicated, would be reported to the Ministry of Health and Wellness for further scrutiny and appropriate measures.
