The Director of Public Prosecutions and the Commissioner of Police met on Friday morning at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Garden Tower. “This was long overdue since my appointment as DPP last December,” said Mr Rashid Ahmine in a communiqué published on the website of his office. He added that he raised and discussed important matters relating to the criminal justice system in the country, which require urgent attention. These include “delays in police investigations, arrest of suspects and detention, prohibition orders against suspects and provisional charges including the Police and Criminal Evidence Bill.” Mr Ahmine added that he “very much looked forward to a close and fruitful collaboration between our organisations with a view to improving many aspects of our criminal justice system which require urgent reforms.”
