Mauritius-United Arab Emirates Partnership: The Prime Minister Participates In A Series Of Meetings

Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth arrived home yesterday morning, after attending the 37th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Ethiopia. In Dubai yesterday (20 February 2024) the Prime Minister held a series of meetings with UAE leaders.

Pravind Kumar Jugnauth first held a meeting with His Highness, General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nayhan, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. Discussions focused on avenues of collaboration between the Dubai police and Mauritian police. There was also a question about the management of passengers at the airport.

The head of the Mauritian government then met with His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade. Discussions have focused on the implementation of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Mauritius and the United Arab Emirates. Also addressed, maritime transportation in the region.

The Prime Minister also held talks with G42 officials. It is an artificial intelligence company based in Abu Dhabi. The G42 expertise could be beneficial to Mauritius in the areas of health, education and research. The Prime Minister also discussed monitoring our Exclusive Economic Zone.

Pravind Kumar Jugnauth also met with His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Emirates Airlines. The Prime Minister thanked Emirates for its support to Mauritians of Muslim faith during their religious travels. Collaboration with the national airline Air Mauritius has also been discussed.

Finally the Prime Minister met with His Excellency the Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nayhan, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two men spoke mainly about renewable energy production, as part of the Renewable Energy Roadmap 2030.
