A 39-year-old bricklayer living in the village of L’Agrément, Saint Pierre, was suspected of drug trafficking. A team from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) in Saint Pierre set up a surveillance operation a few days ago. The operation led to the arrest of Louis Emmanuel Jonathan Ramsamy on Monday 11 September. This was after he was found in possession of two cellophane parcels containing a certain quantity of cannabis, i.e. 0.4 grams and 1,160 cannabis seeds and the sum of Rs 22,500 suspected to be from the sale of cannabis.
An Adsu team led by Chief Inspector Moosun searched Jonathan Ramsamy’s house on Monday 11 September after hours of surveillance. The information obtained proved to be true, as drugs were indeed discovered in the man’s home. He was arrested and taken to the Adsu office for questioning. He was subsequently detained at Rivière des Anguilles police station.
Jonathan Ramsamy was brought before the Moka court on the morning of Tuesday 12 September. He was facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking.
