On February 26, the members of the Mauritius Society of Authors (MASA) finally agreed on the amount of the allowance from the solidarity fund dedicated to them. All senior artists will now receive Rs 1000 at retirement age.
Gérard Louis – the president of MASA can finally take a breath! On February 26, the management and the members were able to reach an agreement concerning the allowance offered to retired artists: “The meeting was once again stormy as was to be expected. But we took the time to explain everything to the members who came. We made them understand that this allowance is not a pension. We also explained that in the interest of fairness, everyone should get Rs 1000 as opposed to Rs 2500 – a sum that only a handful of senior artists were receiving. After a vote, the majority opted for an allowance of Rs 1000. It is possible that this amount will be increased within 6 months. If not, our members will be duly informed. ”
Gérard Louis also announced a new feature that will soon make life easier for artists: “Our members have long criticized us for not communicating effectively. Thus, since October 2022 we have restructured our website. All MASA’s news is now available on it. In addition, we are currently working on phase 2 of the website. This will allow members to register their works directly online,” explains Gérard Louis.
