The Mandela Washington Fellowship Symposium was held March 12-21, 2023 in South Africa. 700 participants from around forty African countries took part. Kenjee Kennedy represented the country with 4 other Mauritians.
Memorable. This is how Kenjee describes his stay in South Africa. “I registered in 2020 to receive training at an American university. The Covid-19 having played the spoilsport, I had to follow the online training without going to the United States. The Mandela Washington Fellowship organized a symposium with all fellows. It was a great experience, since I met some great people.”
Kenjee now wants to make them bear fruit: “Each participant had to submit a project. I presented a hybrid project between youth empowerment and social entrepreneurship, all in a concept around dance. I am currently negotiating with various African countries in order to set up an African Cup. It will take another 2 to 3 three years, the time to create federations in these different countries with an objective to achieve – to have as many African countries as possible at the next Olympic Games.
Note that during his stay Kenjee was invited as a jury for the Breaking for Gold competition – an urban dance competition which took place in Rangburg – South Africa.
