The Child Development Unit (CDU) of the Ministry of Gender Equality has obtained an Emergency Protection Order (EPO) from the Pamplemousses court to remove a 17 year old from his mother’s custody. This followed an anonymous call to the Goodlands CDU office to report that this teenager was being neglected by his mother. The finding was overwhelming when this CDU employee raided his home in L’Espérance Trebuchet. The Piton police opened an investigation for abuse on this case since Monday, June 13.
It is at the police station of Piton that a complaint was made to this effect by this employee of the CDU on Monday morning, June 13. She reported that she received an anonymous phone call on Friday, May 27, which concerned a case of abuse of a 17-year-old boy. On Monday, June 6, she raided the home of this family in L’Esperance Trebuchet. Her observation was the most shocking. The teenager was locked in the house by his biological mother. The young man was neglected and malnourished. On Thursday, June 9, after obtaining an EPO, the teenager was removed from the custody of his mother. He is admitted to North Hospital until this court order expires.
The CDU officer made a point of pointing out that the day she arrived at the family’s home, the state of hygiene was very bad and there was garbage everywhere.
