In the context of the forthcoming Maha Shivratree festival, the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, effected a site visit on Monday afternoon at Grand Bassin to take stock of progress made as regard repair and embellishment works.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning, Minister of Tourism, Mr Louis Steven Obeegadoo; several Ministers and representatives from Governmental institutions and socio-cultural associations were present.
In a statement, Prime Minister Jugnauth said that the purpose of the visit is to take cognizance of the difficulties being encountered and to find solutions to the problems so that the festival takes place in the best possible conditions.
The Prime Minister indicated that over the years, Government has undertaken several renovation works to ensure that the devotees do not encounter any difficulties during their pilgrimage.
He further highlighted that several works have been delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. ‘‘Similar to past years, improvements in terms of environment and infrastructure to upgrade facilities for pilgrims will be undertaken,’’ he said.
Mr Jugnauth also observed that some amenities have to be improved and reassured the socio-cultural representatives that the works will be completed within the set time-frame.
