Members of Linion Moris staged a peaceful demonstration outside Government House on Friday. Carrying placards and the Palestinian flag, and with effigies of children’s bodies on the asphalt, the demonstrators called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. “In any war, it’s always children who died first”, argues Rama Valayden. He said that a solution must be found to stop the war. “We need a Palestinian state,” he insisted saying that he is opposing Zionism and not Jews. He also said that he is delighted that the Bethlehem authorities have decided to cancel the Christmas festivities because of the current situation. Raouf Khodabaccus deplored the Mauritian government’s failure to take a stand.
Rama Valayden appealled to the countries on the UN Security Council, especially America, not to veto the ceasefire,” urged the lawyer. He then addressed the Israeli state. “The death toll of this war is children. They are the ones who pay the highest price. On the eve of Christmas, may peace reign. At this time, our hearts go out to the Palestinians”, he said.
