The much-awaited table oil will be available on the shelves at Rs 75, starting this Friday morning. But it will be controlled and limited to two bottles per person. This is a Limitation Order, decided by the government and announced by Rajiv Servansingh, the Managing Director of the State Trading Corporation.
“This Limitation Order imposes two bottles of this subsidized oil at Rs75 per litre. This is a fixed price that every trader will have to adhere to,” said Rajiv Servansingh, explaining that there is no point in the consumer buying more than he will use by resorting to the trick of sourcing from several shops. “The intention is that as many homes as possible should be able to buy it at this price. This oil will be on the shelves every month in the amount of 350 to 400 litres,”, he revealed.
As reported on Wednesday 03 August, the STC has purchased one million litres of oil from the supplier Moroil after a tender, due to a delay in the shipment ordered from India, which is 500 tons already bottled and whose subsidy is estimated at around Rs 25.
Rodrigues is also waiting for this table oil from SMATCH at Rs 75. The Rodrigues Consumers’ Association fears a shortage and asks the Mauritian authorities to consider this as soon as possible.
