Mauritian Priscilla Morand-Rosset won a silver medal yesterday, Saturday November 11, at the Africa Open 2023 in Dakar.
Competing in the under 48 kg category, Priscilla Morand-Rosset was beaten in the final by Paraguay’s Gabriela Narvaez.
This eighth edition of the Dakar Open Africa 2023 kicked off on November 11, 2023, bringing together 97 judokas, including 66 men and 31 women from 28 different countries.
The Atlas Lions of judo won two gold medals and as many bronze, this Sunday, on the 2nd and final day of the Dakar International Open. Morocco ended the competition in 3rd place overall (4 gold, 4 bronze), behind Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal. Kenya and Cameroon came 4th and 5th respectively.
On Sunday, November 14, Morocco won two bronze medals on the 2nd day of the International Judo Open held on November 13 and 14 in Dakar (Senegal). The two medals were won by Sofia Belattar, who beat Senegal’s Diatta Yacine in the -70kg category, and Hamza Al-Abdlaoui, who got the better of Congo’s O. Gambi (-90kg). The Atlas Lions had already won two gold and two bronze medals on Saturday.
The two gold medals were won by Hassan Doukkali (-73kg), who dominated Saliou Ndiaye of Senegal, and Aziza Chakir (-48kg), who dispatched Diarrassouba Maïmouna of Côte d’Ivoire. On the other hand, Lamiae Eddinari (-57kg) and Zakaria Lamaalem (-60kg) took bronze, beating Kenya’s Mailu Tabitha and Senegal’s Arona Keïta respectively.
In the end, Senegal (4 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze) won the tournament, ahead of Côte d’Ivoire and Morocco. Kenya and Cameroon came in 4th and 5th respectively. As a reminder, 17 countries, including England and Ireland, took part in the Dakar International Judo Open, held at the Stadium Marius Ndiaye.
