Todd Phillips, director of the sequel to Joker, has posted an image on Instagram, a social media platform, showing singer Lady Gaga and actor Joaquin Phoenix. The singer will be playing Harley Quinn in the sequel to 2019’s Joker which earned $1 billion and its main lead Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for best actor.
In the post, the director said, “Happy Valentine’s Day”, with an image of the singer with blond hair, staring into the eyes of Joaquin Phoenix, playing the Joker. The singer posted the image on her Twitter profile as well.
The director shared the image to release Lady Gaga’s first look as Harley Quinn in the film. The posted image has 1.60 lakh likes on Instagram.
While Harley Quinn’s character is known to be played by Margot Robbie in the “Suicide Squad” films and “Bird of Prey”, according to Variety, an American movie-industry-based news agency. In August 2022, Gaga confirmed her association with the ‘Joker’ sequel, the outlet said. The film is said to be a musical.
Todd Phillips wrote the script of the film with Scott Silver, The Hollywood Reporter, an American magazine, said. The shooting of the film is currently ongoing in New York and Los Angeles. The film is set to be in theatres on October 4, 2024, that is five years after the release of the “Joker” in 2019.
Lady Gaga previously worked with Todd Phillips on ‘A Star Is Born’ in 2018. He was the producer of the movie.
The original ‘Joker’ was a massive hit and became the highest-grossing R-rated film in history. The film was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and gave major competition at the Academy Awards that year, with 11 nominations.
