The new restrictions affecting the events industry are making people cringe. Artists and organizers are lamenting the loss of revenue. In addition to a peaceful march in Port-Louis on December 21, members of the Union des Artistes met Avinash Teeluck – Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage – on the same day. Proposals are expected on Thursday December 28.

The artists’ community is angry. The cause? The cancellation of concerts and the new regulations imposed by the government on concert organization.
Joëlle Coret, president of the Union des Artistes union, had a meeting with the minister in charge last Thursday. “The Minister certainly listened attentively. But above all, we made him understand that now is not the time to listen, but the time to act. We also shared our frustrations with him, as well as our proposals. He told us that he would do what was necessary to help artists make a living from their talent. To this end, he has invited the Union des Artistes to a new meeting on Thursday December 28, where proposals will be made.”
On the other hand, Joëlle Coret appeals to artists to form a common front: “It’s important that artists put their egos aside so that we can finally unite and speak with one voice for the improvement of our working conditions.”
